The Twilight Saga: New Moon

TITLE: The Twilight Saga: New Moon
SYNOPSIS: Bella Swan has just turned 18-years-old. Most girls would be happy that they're finally 18, but Bella isn't. You see, now she is technically one year older than the love of her life, vampire Edward Cullen. After an incident at Bella's birthday party, Edward and his family decides that it is best for Bella if they leave. But before he leaves, Edward makes Bella promise him that she won't do anything stupid or reckless. Bella goes into a deep depression after Edward leaves, but she finds comfort in her friend Jacob Black. But soon, Jacob starts to change in rather strange ways. Little does she know, that Jacob's transformation into a werewolf is only the beginning...
FAVORITE QUOTE:
Jacob: Hello, Swan residence.
Edward (Over the phone): Where's Charlie?
Jacob: He's not here right now. He's attending the funeral.
Jacob hangs up. Somewhere, Edward is standing near a pay-phone. He crushes the phone with his hands.
MY VIEWS: I really did not like the book of this at all. It was way too depressing. However, the trailers for the movie looked good, so I decided to check it out. I was not disappointed. In fact, I was actually pleased. The movie was better than I expected, and much less depressing than the book, while still following the book relatively closely. There were points of it that were actually rather funny. A good movie to see if you're a fan of the books or the first movie.
MY RATING: 4 Train Whistles

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

TITLE: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
SYNOPSIS: Harry Potter returns to Hogwarts after spending most of the summer with both the Dursley's and Ron Weasley and his family. Things have changed at Hogwarts, however. The threat of the evil Lord Voldemort is growing. Draco Malfoy must complete a task for the Dark Lord in order to redeem his family's name. Severus Snape is now the Defense Against the Dark Arts Teacher, a position he's wanted for so long, and the new Potions Master is retired teacher Horace Slughorn. On his first day back, Harry recieves a book that is filled with writing from somebody called the Half-Blood Prince. Also, Dumbledore has been disappearing from Hogwarts for certain periods of time. When he finally returns, he has a special mission for Harry. Who is the Half-Blood Prince, and what is the special mission Dumbledore has in mind for Harry?
FAVORITE QUOTE:
Ron stirs
Lavender: See? He senses my presence! Don't worry, Won-Won! I'm here! I'm here!
Ron (hoarsely): Her...mion...e...Hermione.
Hermione takes Ron's hand. Lavender runs out, crying.
Dumbledore: Oh, to be young and to feel love's keen sting.
MY VIEWS: You know, for one of the darker books of the series, the movie was quite funny. Seriously, several of the scenes in the movie made me laugh. And, the book also followed the movie quite closely. Most of the dialogue that was said in the movie I could remember reading from the book. An excellent adaptation of the book. I can't wait for the final two movies to come out, and I can't wait for the DVD of this one to come out.
MY RATING: 4 1/2 Train Whistles

UPDATE

I know, it's been like, a million years since I updated this blog. Anyhoo, don't worry, I'll still be here, but I just want to let you all know that I will be making a bit of a change to the frequency of posts on this blog. From this point onward, I will only post when I see either a new movie that I like, a sequel to a movie that I liked, or an old movie that I have recently re-watched to remind myself why I like it.
The man reason for this change in writing is, I'm a college student now, and I don't have as much time to do these blog entries as I used to. However, I shall still try to do them whenever I see a truely good movie, good sequel, or rewatch an older good movie.

I'll be writing again soon!

Star Trek & My Sister's Keeper

Okay, so I've decided to change the udating of this Blog. Now, everytime that I see two movies, I'll post in it. Anyhow, here's the two most recent movies I've seen:

TITLE: Star Trek
SYNOPSIS: The beginning of the original "Star Trek" series. It shows how James Tiberius Kirk, Spock, Leonard "Bones" McCoy, Uhura, Scotty, and the rest of the crew got onboard the U.S.S. Enterprise, as well as showing thier earliest adventure together against the evil Captain Nero and his gang of Romulans.
FAVORITE QUOTE: Spock: I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.
Kirk: See, we are gettin' to know each other. (Slaps Spock on the shoulder)
SYNOPSIS: I've never really been that much of a "Star Trek" fan. However, this movei opened up my eyes to what I've been missing! I loved this movie! It was great! Even though I wasn't a fan before, I knew I was seeing something special, and I've now become a fan of "Star Trek"! Kirk was awesome! Spock was great! Bones was cool! And Scotty...Scotty was hilarious! I ony have one disappointment. I didnt' hear anybody throughout the entire course of the film, ever say "Beam me/us up, Scotty!" However, if that is my only complaint, then it was a pretty good film. For you fans of the TV show "House" out there, be on the look-out for a cameo from Jennifer Morrison (Cameron)! One great movie! Can't wait 'til it's released on DVD.
MY RATING: 4 Train Whistles
TITLE: My Sister's Keeper
SYNOPSIS: Anna isn't sick, but she might as well be. She's spent her whole life, 11 years, being poked and prodded by needles, having bone marrowing taken out of her. She's been in the hospital more times than she can count. This is because of Anna's older sister, Kate. You see, when Kate was a baby, she was diagnosed with cancer. The doctor told her parents that he couldn't find a match for Kate, and that she would die. However, off the record, he told the parents that it was possible to genetically engineer a baby to be a perfect match for Kate. And so, Anna was "born", created as a perfect match for her sister. However, at the age of 11, Anna has decided, no more. And so, she sues her parents for the rights to her own body.
MY FAVORITE QUOTE: Kate: Wanna hear our routine?
Sara: What routine?
Anna (Deep voice): Hey, baby. What's your sign?
Kate: Cancer.
Anna: You're a Cancer?
Kate: No, I'm a Leo.
Anna & Kate: But I have cancer!
MY THOUGHTS: This was probably one of the saddest movies I've ever seen. I cried. None the less, it was also one of the best movies I've seen this year. The story was great, the acting was superb! Abagail Breslin was wondeful as Anna, while Sofia Vassilieva was excellent as Kate. Cameron Diaz did excellent as Kate and Anna's over-protective mother. And Alec Baldwin was excellent as Mr. Campbell Alexander, the lawyer that Anna hires. This was an awesome film and I cannot wait until it comes out on DVD!
MY RATING: 4 and 1/2 Train Whistles!

Duplicity & Fired Up

Hey, all. Sorry I've been gone so long. However, I now have 2 movie reviews to share with you.

TITLE: Duplicity

SYNOPSIS: Ray Koval (Clive Owen) is an ex-MIE agent who hooks up with ex-CIA agent Claire Stenwick (Julia Roberts). When the two get paried up together for a new assignment, they act as though they hate each other in public, but behind closed doors, they are in love. Eventually, they start double-crossing each other, themselves, their friends, and their own companies.

FAVORITE QUOTE: Ray: Then you seduce me, then you drug me and ransack my hotel room.

Claire: I'm sorry.

MY THOUGHTS: Unless you are really paying close attention to the story, you will get lost very, very easily in "Duplicity". The movie jumps around quite a lot. We start off five years into the past, then go to the present day, then go a few months later, then three years ago, etc. It gets quite confusing after a while. However, that being said, "Duplicity" is a good movie. Clive Owen and Julia Roberts did an excellent job as the two starring roles. Teh story works quite well. However, like I said, you need to be able to pay attention to what is happening.
MY RATING: 3 and 1/2 Train Whistles.

TITLE: Fired Up
SYNOPSIS: Shawn Colfax (Nicholas D'Agosto) and Nick Brady (Eric Christian Olsen) are the two most popular guys in High School. They are forced into going to football camp again by their coach. However, instead, they decide to ditch football camp when they hear about cheerleader camp. The only reason they even want to go to cheerleader camp is so they can pick up some hot girls. However, when Shawn starts to fall in love with Carly, the captain of their school cheerleading team, he starts to change his mind, and starts thinking that cheerleader camp isn't just about picking up hot chicks.
FAVORITE QUTOE: Dr. Rick: 10 and 1/2, poppo! 11 in crocs!
MY THOUGHTS: I really enjoyed this movie! This movie was awesome! Nicholas D'Agosto and Christian Olsen were awesome as the two main guys. Sarah Roemer was amazing as Carly. I can't wait for this movie to cone out on DVD! It was great!
MY RATING: 4 and 1/2 stars!

Slumdog Millionaire

TITLE: Slumdog Millionaire

SYNOPSIS: Jamal Malik, an 18-year-old kid from the slums of Mumbai is a contestant on the Indian version of "Who Wants to be a Millionaire". He knows the answer to every question. However, the host of the show and the government beleive that Jamal has somehow cheated to get the correct answers. But, he hasn't. He knows the answers from his own personal experience.

FAVORITE QUOTE: Salim (age 8-10): Shut up! The man with the Colt .45 says shut up!

MY THOUGHTS: "Slumdog" was probably one of the best movies I've seen in 2009 so far. It was interesting, sad, funny, and intense. Sometimes all at once. All of the cast did a wonderful job of it, especially the actors who played all three versions of Jamal (Ayush Mahesh Khedekar, Tanay Hemant Chheda, & Dev Patel), Salim (Azharuddin Mohammed Ismail, Ashutosh Lobo Gajiwala, & Madhur Mittal), and Latika (Rubiana Ali, Tanvi Ganesh Lonkar, & Freida Pinto). All of them were absolutely wonderful. This is a movie that really makes you think. Though, it is rather jumpy in the beginning, once you figure otu how everything is being laid out, you get used to it. This is a must-see movie!

New In Town

TITLE: New In Town

SYNOPSIS: Lucy Hill (Renee Zellweger) is a business woman in Miami, and takes her career very seriously. She hopes to, one day, become Vice President of the company she works for. She does get a promotion, but not the one she'd hoped for. Her promotion is as a restructuror, and she has to move all the way out to a tiny town in Minnesota. At first, she has a bit of trouble adapting to her new surroundings. She could really care a lot less about any of the workers in the plant. However, she soon befriends a good number of the workers and other people there. Then, the plant is in jeopardy of being shut down. But, you see, now she actually cares about these people, and will do anything to make sure their jobs stay where they are.

FAVORITE QUOTE: Lucy (drunkenly): Hey...hey..I do not need shome man to help me.

Lucy passes out

MY RATING: It was a pretty good movie. Renee Zellweger does a good job as main character Lucy Hill, while Harry Conick Jr. and Siobhan Fallon do very good jobs as Ted (Lucy's corporate consultant) and Blanche (Lucy's secretary). Be on the lookout for a whole lot of Minnesota jokes. If there's a Minnesota joke to be had, it's probably in this movie. All together, I'd give this romantic-comedy a look if you like romantic-comedies.

Paul Blart: Mall Cop

TITLE: Paul Blart: Mall Cop
SYNOPSIS: Paul Blart (Kevin James) is your average man. He lives at home with his mother and his 11-year-old daughter. He is divorced, as his one past wife only married him to get her green card, and then abandoned him and his child. He is, basically, a loveable sad-sack. His job is as a security gaurd at a local mall. He takes his job very seriously. Perhaps, a bit too seriously, as he beleives himself to be an actual cop. He is like the lowly stage hand who considers himself to be director of a play. One day, while patrolling the mall, Paul meets the butiful Amy (Jayma Mays) who works at a small boutique. He tries to get her attention, and is, somewhat successful. He has to borrow one of his friend's daughter's cell-phones, and is continulously getting calls from her love-sick, stalker boyfriend, Pahud. Now, Paul isn't the brightest lightbulb in the bunch. However, when a gang of criminals tries to make a hostile take-over of the mall, Paul might be the only one who can save the day...
FAVORITE QUOTE: Paul: Okay...I'll call you back.
Pahud (Yelling): You call me back, Paul Blart! You call me back!
MY THOUGHTS: I was rather surprised to find out that Adam Sandler had something to do with this film. However, when I saw the "Happy Madison" logo, I figured, "Okay, either he is in this movie (which he wasn't), or he had something to do with it (which he did, he was co-producer)". "Mall Cop" is a pretty good movie. Yes, it is kinda stupid at times, but it's a good movie. Sometimes, you need to see a movie that you don't really have to think about. Movies where you cna just sit back, relax, and have a few laughs at stupid comedy. Kevin James does a good job as the title character, Paul Blart. And, Jayma Mays does good as Paul's love interest, Amy. Mays might look familiar to some of you "Ugly Betty" fans, as she played Henry's ex-girlfriend Charlie in the 1st and 2nd seasons of the show. Mays, again, does a terrific performance here. All together, this movie is good for a few stupid comedy jokes. It's something you should just go see to ahve a few laughs.
MY RATING: 3 and 1/2 Train Whsitles

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

TITLE: The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.
SYNOPSIS: The movie opens in a hospital. An old lady is lying on a bed, and tells her daughter to read her the diary of a man she used to know named Benjamin. Benjamin Button was born under rather unsual circumstances. The day that World War I had ended, and all the soldiers came home was the day he was born. However, he wasn't born in the normal way. He was born at the age of about 80. Meaning that, when he was born, he looked like a little 80-year-old man. His father, Thomas Button, beleives him to be a monster and abandons him outside of a nursing home. As time goes on, Benjamin starts to grow younger, and he learns about love and about life. As well as learning that all people were created for a reason.
FAVORITE QUOTE: Mr. Daws: Did I ever tell you I been struck by lightening seven times...?
MY THOUGHTS: If you go to see this movie and expect to see an adaptation of the short story by F. Scott Fitzgerald, prepare to be disappointed. In fact, the only thing that this movie has in common with the short story it is based on, is the main character, Benjamin's name, and the fact that he was born old and grows younger every year. Almost the whole rest of the movie is poetic liscensing. However, this does not make it a bad movie. In fact, I'd say it's just the opposite. It was a great movie! I must say, the way they did the story, though not entirely true to the short story, was very good! I quite enjoyed it. Brad Pitt was excellent in it as the title character. The make-up they had him in when he was older (or should it be, younger?) was excellent! Cate Blanchet did very well as Daisy, a friend and later, love interest of Benjamin. Elle Fanning, younger sister of Dakota Fanning, also did well in her portrayl of Daisy when she was younger. All together, "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" was an awesome movie!
MY RATING: 4 Train Whistles.
